Top 10 kitchen renovation mistakes

  1. Wrong measurements
When purchasing new cabinets be careful not to get swept away with all the excited and forget to properly measure where your cabinets will go.
  2. Choosing a material that you can’t maintain easily
Think about what you need for your lifestyle. Do you need something that won’t stain easily or something that is heat resistant? Ask yourself relevant questions before purchasing.
  3. Island that is too large
We would all love an island that the whole family can sit around, but be careful not to make it too large. You have to have room to manoeuvre.
  4. Not enough storage
When planning your kitchen make sure to think about how much storage you realistically need. You don’t want to fill every wall, but make sure you have enough.
  5. Using the wrong paint
Kitchen paint is a lot like bathroom paint, you have to make sure that is can handle the heat and the moisture.
  6. Set a budget to low
Often people set a low budget for a kitchen renovation and then realise it can’t be done. Do your research and be realistic.
  7. Install the new cabinets before doing the new floor
Shiny new floor and then work boots trample of it, dust from the walls flies everywhere and, worse, a cabinet could fall on it. Do the cabinets first.
  8. Think you don’t need a backsplash
You want to be cool and think, “I don’t a backsplash around my oven.” Yes you do. Try cooking for meal with oil spitting without it.
  9. Be too on trend
We all want to be on trend, but when you are spending thousands of dollars you don’t want to be so on trend that in a year’s time your kitchen is outdated.
  10. Try to do too much
Call in the professional to help. You may be able to do some jobs on your own, but have the job well done.
