Top 10 bathroom renovation mistakes

  1. Budgeting too little
Don’t underestimate the cost of a bathroom. Make sure to sit down and work out the cost with a contingency plan. You don’t want to be stuck not being able to finish the job.
  2. Underestimating time
Don’t underestimate the amount of time you will need to complete the project. If you have given yourself two weeks to complete, then give yourself breathing room of two more.
  3. Starting too quickly
You may be excited to be getting you brand new bathroom, and want to start ripping out what you currently have, but wait! Make sure you have everything planned down to the tiny details!
  4. Bad layout
Plan your layout. Where exactly should your shower, tub, toilet, vanity etc. be going? Make sure to draw out your plans.
  5. Allow space for doors
Showers, doorways etc., you need to make sure that you allow room for these doors to open without hitting anything else!
  6. Toilet space
Don’t cram your toilet in a corner. Take leg room in to consideration. You need a little space to be able to move and clean.
  7. Installing carpet
Think about it. Carpet is probably not your best option in the bathroom. It will soak up water and collect dirt. Opt for a floor option that is easy to wipe down like tile or laminate.
  8. Wallpaper
Wallpaper, although there are bathroom options, is a risky choice. You don’t want to spend a lot of money, take a chance and all of a sudden it starts to peel.
  9. Be too on trend
While we all love to be on top of the latest trends you can be too on trend. The bathroom is an expensive renovation, so you will likely not be renovating for a while. What may be on trend now, may not be in five years’ time!
  10. Not turning to the professionals
There are some things that you just can’t do yourself. For example, plumbing and electrics are likely going to need a pro!
